Birthday Festivities!
Emory had her first big birthday celebration today (as her 1st birthday party was canceled thanks to the noro virus, a HORRIBLE GI virus we all succumbed to just before her birthday...that lasts for 2 weeks.) She really seemed to "get" the fact that it was her birthday, moreso than Aidan and Alanna at the same age anyway. I guess she's been to more birthday parties since she has older siblings. She did wish everyone "Happy Birthday" throughout the day...but hey...she's only 2! She was very excited about her Lightning McQueen cake, and her face lit up when she saw it. (Jason graciously took over kid duty immediately after dinner last night, so I could get it decorated.) I have to say, when you spend over 2 hours decorating a cake, it's a little hard to slice it up into pieces...that first cut is a bit disheartening. But, the look on their faces when they see the cake is worth it!
After our party, the kids had "naptime" during which no one slept a wink. Then we headed off to the mall to let Emory choose an animal at Build-A-Bear, and she chose a tabby cat. All the kids waited pretty patiently in line to fill the cat, and Aidan and Alanna were very happy to choose a pair of shoes for the bears they received the day they were born.
I can't believe our youngest child just turned two! It is amazing how they have changed and grown. My parents brought over some pictures of me at roughly the same age as Emory, and I was shocked to see how much we resemble each other. It's striking. If I get a chance, I'll scan and post them...or maybe I'll do a scrapbook page. Here are some photos of the party...there are many more on Flickr. If you need access, just let me know and I'll get you connected to that page.
