That would be Emory's right eye...conjunctivitis...yuck! This is our first bout with good 'ol pink eye, but I remember getting it quite a bit when I was younger. She was not happy when she woke up from her nap and couldn't open her eye. Poor thing. :(
The girls were all gussied up in their favorite "wedding dresses" (they wore them to a wedding last year) and pig tails, so Jason broke out the camera. Aidan was nice and comfy in his athletic shorts and fave soccer t-shirt, but whatever! There's some major sisterly love goin' on in some shots. More on the FlickR page...
This morning we FINALLY made it to see a children's musician that I've been trying to see for the longest time. She was playing at Pottery Barn Kids at the local mall, so we headed out this morning to meet some friends for the festivities. It wasn't too crowded when we arrived, but by showtime, there were kids and strollers GALORE!
The kids were definitely entertained, though Alanna wasn't thrilled about all the people, she kept a good poker face through the experience. I couldn't tell if she liked it or not, but afterwards she smiled, nodded enthusiastically, and said she did when I asked. Emory enjoyed alternating standing on my legs or sitting in my lap (moreso the former) but wanted nothing to do with clapping or any other such silliness. Aidan was in HEAVEN! He LOVED it! He grinned from ear to ear the entire time, singing along, clapping, doing anything the musician asked. He even shouted out some animals when she asked for suggestions during Old MacDonald. It was so cute, and he was just giddy with delight when she took his suggestions (twice.)
That was probably the most fun we've had in a couple of weeks! (I think I enjoyed it as much as the kids!) The kids sang the songs we heard (and haven't sung in a while at home) at the dinner table until I finally reminded them that they needed to eat. :)
This morning at breakfast Aidan informed me he wanted to draw a trapezoid on his Doodlepro. ??? A trapezoid? Okay... So I asked him to draw me one in the air, and sure enough....he knows what a trapezoid is.
Who taught him that????
UPDATE: Mystery solved...It was on Blue's Clues
Some mornings it seems likes every time I turn around, one of my children is running around half-naked.
The other day, I decided to see how the kids would do listening to chapter books. So, I was looking through a treasury to get some ideas for what they might be interested, and I came across Chocolate Fever. What better topic of interest to start with to keep their attention?!? Well, we made it through 4 chapters with rapt attention, and they can hardly wait to read more tomorrow.
So today was my birthday, and we had a pretty good day all in all. Alanna woke me up at 5:30 complaining of a headache, so I didn't have high hopes. I knew I wouldn't fall back to sleep, so I contemplated getting up to exercise. Then I came to my senses and relaxed in bed....who was I kidding? I did go ahead and get ready before they woke up, so we could get a head start on the day. We were headed to Barnes and Noble, and despite the fact that they knew it was my birthday (I asked if they knew what day it was as I was making breakfast), no one had given me birthday hugs and kisses. As soon as I drew their attention to that fact, I was showered with hugs and kisses, and they even spontaneously decided to serenade me with the birthday song. So things were looking up.
After breakfast, we went to Barnes and Noble to get some books (and a latte for me). After we finally selected just the right books, we went to the cafe for my coffee at which point Emory burst exuberantly (read: "loudly") into song with her rendition of the birthday song. So it made me laugh and warmed my heart, and it got a few giggles from the other patrons.
Then we headed to a friends' house for lunch and playtime, The kids had so much fun playing with their God-family! And they really loved the matchbox car racetrack with loop-de-loops. To add to the excitement, Mom had dropped by my house to drop off a gift. So sweet...only she tripped the alarm and couldn't recall the code to turn it off. So we had an eventful couple of minutes trying to cancel the false alarm. It was quite an adventure, trying to communicate with her over the wailing alarm given her hearing loss and the pressure, time being of the essence, to avoid a police dispatch. No harm done though, except for a few frazzled nerves.
This evening, since Jason wasn't going to be home, I decided to pick up a pizza. The kids were really hoping for some cake, so I grabbed a little cake from Harris Teeter, too. They were SO excited, and they were really pumped about putting candles on the cake. They ate up their pizza (except for Alanna, who preferred salad), and told me they were full....except for the room in their tummies for cake. Then they serenaded me again, so we could blow out the candles together. Very fun.
I got them all tucked in bed, and Jason eventually came home with a beautiful cake from The Mad Hatter. Yum! Guess I'll have to eat two desserts tonight!
My kids, though they drive me crazy at times, can be as sweet as anyone could possibly imagine. Lately, they have started fighting for turns to tell me how much they love me. Inspired by Guess How Much I Love You (by Sam McBratney, I think), a typical profession goes something like this:
I love you from my bed, all the way over the river, bouncing off the mountains, around the sun, around the moon, bouncing off the stars, around all the planets, back down bouncing off the mountain, and into my bed.
How LUCKY am I?
The next two weeks, Jason is working 7a-7p shifts Mon through Fri, which means the kids won't see him until Saturday morning. Could be a long week...we'll see if there's anything blog-worthy.
Emory is Potty Trained!!! No more diapers! Yay! (Well---except when she sleeps...) It's official...there are no more babies in our house. All the cribs are gone. No more diapers. It's a good thing, but I'm not sure how I feel about all this growing up stuff ...sigh...
