After lunch, I let the kids have a little bit of the chocolate candy...or maybe more than a little bit...but today I'm trying not to obsess about it. When Emory finished hers off, she spread her arms wide and said "that best...." looked at me for a second and thought, then finished with: "...ever had." Clearly, in her 1 year, 363 days of life, she has become a connoisseur of fine chocolate. :) Then she promptly hopped down from her chair, climbed up the side of Aidan's and hovered over his shoulder while he ate his mini M&Ms. In a defensive strike, he quickly jutted his shoulder forward to shield his precious chocolate from Emory. Alanna, on the other hand, finished hers off uncharacteristically quickly, licked her lips, and headed off to play.
(Maybe Alanna said "That was the best chocolate I ever had" when I wasn't listening, and Emory was just imitating her. Either way, it was too funny to hear a nearly two-year-old say something was the best she's ever had.)
Today on the way to Super Target, the kids overheard me asking Jason if I should pick up something for Valentine's Day. I was trying to be discrete, but they always pick up on these things. They didn't know exactly what I was talking about, but they knew I'd be getting them something...for some reason. So they asked "Will it be chocolate???" I said I didn't know, then I asked "Do you love Mommy or chocolate more?" Both Aidan and Alanna answered that they love Mommy AND chocolate. "Good answer!" I replied. Alanna said "But we certainly love chocolate!" Then I asked Emory, who was feeling very grumpy. She tersely said "no."
Jason gave the kids a mini Reese's cup after dinner while we were busy cleaning up. Before we knew it, Alanna was providing instructions to her siblings about how you go about eating a Reese's cup. This is how it went:

First, you take off the green wrapper.
Then you take off the brown.
Throw two of them away.
Eat the chocolate and the peanut butter.
Wipe your hands and go play.
Jason then decided to see what Aidan and Emory's thoughts on the subject were:

We just take off the wrapper and take off the inside. Eat it! (Jason: "And then what?") We wipe our hands and take a bath.
By Emory
I don't know.
On another note: Emory had her first haircut today. It went swimmingly....she just sat in the chair like a perfect angel while the "stylist" snipped away, so she has a perfectly coiffed head. Is anyone laughing yet? Ha...she actually screamed anytime the lady moved toward her face. We could distract Emory as long as the lady was cutting in the back, but suffice it to say that I'll be doing a patch job later. Anyway, her hair is now slightly tamed in comparison to the wild state it was in up to this point.
Aunt Maureen: "Aidan, what is your favorite toy Santa brought you for Christmas?"
Aidan: Hershey's Kisses
